The Millowners Arms
The ‘Millowners Arms’ gallery at Kelham Island Museum was officially opened in October 2013 by HRH The Duke of Gloucester.
The gallery tells the story of Sheffield’s great brewing industry with displays laid out in the style of a traditional pub. Great care was taken over the detailing of the exhibit, down to the Yorkshire dart board. The interpretation explores the growth of the brewing industry and the rise of the pub, and associated skills such as coopering and beer making.
The design brief for the gallery included interpretive panels (placed within frames to maintain the pub ambience) the ‘pub sign’ and window graphics, and even a label design for the bottled Millowners Ale, a special brew issued to mark the opening of the gallery.
The Millowners Arms will be used for special events, including the popular weddings which take place at the museum.
